While we like to use local and seasonal flowers whenever possible, sometimes it's just not possible! Like when you find these amazing and humongous King Protea at the market on a cold morning in February.
The title of this post makes me think of New Orleans and more specifically Carnival Time in New Orleans which is in full swing (or so I hear). There is a mythical Mardi Gras Krewe called Proteus. They are one of the oldest krewes, having paraded since 1882. The identity of the King of Proteus remains a mystery and his float is shaped like a giant seashell, only fitting for the Shepard of the Seas...

Costumes!
Wish I was there. This is who I would be.

Amazing costumes! I love the connection you made with the flower. I have never been to New Orleans--it's high on my list.
